‘A great fit’: Virginia football Lands Massive Commitment from Nebraska Super Talent
Sounds like Daniel Kaelin has been on quite the journey. Making a decision to leave his home state and beloved Nebraska football program wasn’t a snap choice. He really took his time with it, saying, “It wasn’t easy,” which totally makes sense, right? Leaving somewhere familiar can be such a tough call! But he felt it was necessary for his future, wanting to put himself in the best position to play earlier in his career.
So, he recently committed to Virginia after spending some time redshirting at Nebraska. He called the move, “a great fit,” and you can just feel his excitement about joining the Cavaliers and getting back on the field in practice next month. He’s got four years of eligibility left, which is awesome for him.
His high school coach, Michael Huffman, shared that even with all these tough decisions, Kaelin approaches everything with a smile. That’s pretty inspiring. At Nebraska, he was up against Dylan Raiola, who’s already making waves as a freshman. It’s evident that Kaelin really wanted the chance to shine, and with Virginia, he feels like he has a fair shot. They’ve been upfront about bringing in another QB, and he seems pretty optimistic about the competition.
What’s neat is that he really trusts the coaches at UVa. Taylor Lamb, the QB coach, was someone Kaelin connected with back in high school. He mentioned, “Right off the bat there was a little bit of familiarity there,” which is such a comforting feeling, especially when you’re stepping into a new environment.
He’s also excited about the offensive style they run at UVa, saying it’s similar to what he’s familiar with, plus he finds their passing concepts diverse and the use of play-action really appealing. And with his intelligence on the field, his coach believes he’ll catch on to the playbook super quick, maybe even by the end of January.
Kaelin seems genuinely positive about the direction Virginia is moving in. After finishing 5-7 last season, he’s seen the potential for improvement, mentioning close calls in games that could have gone either way. It sounds like he wants to be part of something good!
As Huffman said, “Danny wants to play and win,” and it’s clear that he’s ready for this new chapter. Here’s hoping he finds success at UVa and helps turn the program around! Go Cavaliers
