Big News: Nebraska adds intriguing wide receiver from transfer portal
So, you know how college football teams are always shuffling their rosters? Well, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are at it again.
Check this out: freshman receiver Hardley Gilmore IV is the latest addition to their squad, and he’s coming in hot from the transfer portal. Just a day after sophomore Jaylen Lloyd announced his own entry into the portal, Nebraska snatched up Gilmore, who was previously at Kentucky. According to Matt Zenitz from 247Sports, this guy is a former four-star recruit, so that’s a pretty good pickup!
Here’s the scoop on Gilmore: he stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 178 pounds. During his time at Kentucky, he had six catches for 153 yards, and he made a splash with a standout performance against Murray State, where he caught two passes for 72 yards – including a massive 52-yard touchdown. That’s what you call making an impact.
Oh, and get this: Gilmore played at Pahokee High School in Florida and actually reclassified, skipping his senior year. So he’s one of the youngest freshmen out there right now, which adds an interesting twist to his story.
There’s a scouting report from Andrew Ivins that describes him as “a young wide receiver with a projectable frame” and notes that he’s pretty quick on his feet. It mentions that while he didn’t face the toughest competition in high school, he comes from a town that’s produced a lot of NFL talent. He’s got this long stride that helps him build up speed, and he shows “strong hands and impressive body control” when he catches the ball. They think he might need a year or two to really find his place, but there’s definitely potential for him to shine at the Power Five level.
Gilmore is actually the third wide receiver Nebraska has brought in recently, joining his former Kentucky teammate Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter, who transferred from Cal. They’ll all be under the guidance of Daikiel Shorts, their former receivers coach at Kentucky, which is kind of cool since they’ll already have that chemistry.
All this is part of the Huskers’ strategy, as this marks their 12th addition from the portal this cycle. Exciting times ahead for Nebraska football.
